Help provide support and information to people affected by MND
Most GP’s will only come across one or two cases of MND during their career. It is vital that all health and social care professionals involved in the care of people with MND can access accurate information in order to be able to support those living with MND, their carers and families.
MND Connect is a free telephone and email service for people living with MND as well as their family members and carers. The MND Connect team also support health and social care professionals involved in the care of people with MND, as well as MND Association staff and volunteers.
Each year, the MND Connect team answer over 8,000 calls from people requesting information and support. They also make over 3,000 call backs and respond to over 2,000 emails.
It costs approximately £27 per hour of adviser time to run MND Connect.
"The day after we told our daughter that I had motor neurone disease, she rang the MND Connect helpline. She was received very warmly. She was so impressed by the people on the other end of the phone – the compassion that they showed and the help that they offered. She was stunned and amazed and so grateful.
"I’m really pleased that I have MND Association at my back, that you are there when I need you, and that my wife knows she can phone and speak to somebody to get some sympathy, some support and some help."
Andy, who is living with MND.
