The MND Association's Royal Patron HRH Princess Anne joined researchers and people affected by MND at the first MND EnCouRage UK event last month.
Organised by the MND Association, the two-day event was held at the University of Northampton and aims to attract, enthuse and encourage early career researchers (ECRs) to continue their careers in MND research.
Princess Anne had the opportunity to speak to the ambitious young researchers and people affected by MND, who provided their perspectives on living with MND and their views on MND research.
Many of the ECRs who attended are funded through our research grants programme and it is hoped they will be our future leaders in MND research - helping us to learn more about the disease, potential treatments and eventually a cure.
The feedback has been entirely positive. Dr Roisin McMackin, who is funded by the MND Association and is from Trinity College Dublin’s School of Medicine, said:
“Had a brilliant time at the #MNDEncourageUK event - discussing the ongoing research with people with ALS and their families has been extremely helpful, it’s so vital this community is part of the research conversation. The career advice from MND research leaders was very useful and inspiring.”
