MND Association and MND Scotland announce new MND pre-fellowship scheme

Budding MND researchers are being provided a vital stepping-stone to help them continue a career in MND research thanks to funding and support from two MND charities.

The four pre-fellowships on offer, funded by the MND Association and administered by MND Scotland, are open to early career researchers and are designed to bridge a funding gap. The awards will allow researchers to gather initial data required to demonstrate the potential of their research for fellowship applications. A researcher awarded a pre-fellowship will then be in position to apply for longer-term fellowships in MND research.

The pre-fellowship scheme will become part of a new national virtual MND research institute, which is currently in development after securing significant investment from the government following the United to End MND campaign.

The scheme forms part of the new institute’s objective to train future leaders in MND research – with a particular emphasis on the development of new treatments – by providing funding and a collaborative research environment that encourages early career scientists to continue their training and careers in MND research.

Sophie Nyberg, Programmes and Partnerships Manager, says:

“We are delighted to announce this opportunity, we want to ensure the best researchers out there are able to pursue a career in MND research. Adding this ‘stepping stone’ will allow us to attract and retain the best and brightest researchers.”
