Welcome to the Gloucestershire Branch

The branch is run entirely by volunteers who aim to provide the best possible support to those affected by MND in our county. We provide support by:

  • Helping local people who have MND, their families and carers via personal support, online support, support groups and more.
  • Raising awareness of MND on a local and national level.
  • Developing fundraising activities as a branch and assisting you with your fundraising efforts.
  • Promoting news, events and other information that makes all our work possible.

We warmly welcome your input to these aims. Please contact us with your news, your activities or your ideas.

Study about MND Carer Wellbeing

I've recently met again with researcher Polly Trucco at UEA who is leading this important research study about MND carer wellbeing. We have committed our support to this and we further need your help.

Polly is urgently working to complete recruitment by the end of the year. They need 31 more participants to complete the survey and 6 more participants willing to be interviewed. Please can you all consider how you can promote this.

The link to the online questionnaire is below.

Additional Survey

I wonder if you could help me. I am a third year clinical psychology trainee at the University of Southampton. I am currently working on some research for my thesis titled “understanding how carers of people with MND experience palliative care in the UK.” I sadly lost my stepdad to MND 3 years ago, and seeing and supporting my mum through the caring process means that this project is very close to my heart. A wealth of literature has recommended early support from palliative care and highlighted this as vital in supporting carers of people with MND. I hope that this work can allow me to better understand the experiences of other family  caregivers in the UK. I then hope to use this understanding to adapt and build upon guidelines for supporting family carers in palliative care services created in Australia, to fit the needs of carers of people with MND within palliative care services in the UK.

You may have seen my study advert if you are using twitter as the MND association have been wonderful in supporting this and helping me to recruit participants. I am aiming to recruit between 6-10 participants to complete an interview about their experiences of palliative care in the UK. I have so far completed 3 interviews so am reaching out to ask if you may be willing to help get the word out there about my project and hopefully identify more participants?

I have attached my study advert for more information.

Kind regards,

Georgia Steed

Fundraising and raising awareness are also an important part of branch activities. we organise a number of events throughout the year which are well supported.

Additionally we are very fortunate to be assisted by a number of individuals and organisations within the region. They raise money for use by the branch to help people living with MND or to help fund research into MND to learn more about the disease and help to find treatments. Every event held helps spread the word about MND and raise people's understanding of what it means to live with MND.
