We believe all* people with MND should be entitled to free prescriptions. Managing a condition is a costly business for many, as shown in our MND Costs campaign, but for those not entitled to free prescriptions it can mean tough choices needing to be made at an already difficult time. A limited number of conditions are exempt from prescription charges, and we believe reform of the system is needed.

*People with a continuing physical disability which means you cannot go out without help from another person can apply for an exemption certificate. Download our Benefits and entitlements information sheet for more information.

Prescription Charges Coalition

The MND Association is campaigning as part of the Prescription Charges Coalition. This is an alliance of over 40 organisations, who are campaigning to end unfair prescription charges for people with long-term medical conditions.

The Prescription Charges Coalition are calling on the Government to urgently reform the prescription charge exemption criteria in England, and make prescriptions free for people living with long-term medical conditions. A petition has been launched, to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the prescription exemption criteria being introduced, as the criteria have not been updated since.

This petition is now closed.

Previously as part of the Prescription Charges Coalition, we asked our supporters to email their MP and call for people with long-term medical conditions to be exempt from prescription charges. Over 2000 people emailed their MP overall and we would like to thank everyone that supported this action.
