Sports Personality of the YearRob Burrow was recognised with a special film montage on the BBC’s annual sporting showcase Sports Personality of the Year.

The four minute film on the popular programme focused on Rob’s journey following the public announcement of his MND diagnosis in December 2019. Included was footage of Rob and his family’s first sight of a mural painted in Leeds recognising Rob’s contribution to rugby league and the Leeds Rhinos in particular. Also mentioned were the many fundraising activities which have taken place this year, inspired by Rob – ending with a celebration of his team mate and captain Kevin Sinfield’s remarkable achievement of running seven marathons in seven days and raising more than £2.6 million as a result.

Kevin joined presenters Gary Lineker and Gaby Logan on the Sports Personality of the Year stage during which he talked about his support of the MND Association. Kevin was given the honour of reading out the results of the public vote for the top award on the night which was given to Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton.

Also featured in the programme was Sports Personality nominee cricketer Stuart Broad, who took his 500th Test wicket for England during the summer series win over West Indies. Stuart’s father Chris is a Patron of the Association and the whole family has raised funds for many years through The Broad Appeal.
