Events and fundraising
We raise funds to enable us to provide practical help and information to people with MND, and to fund research that we hope will develop effective alleviating treatment for MND and, one day, find a cure.
We receive no national or local government funding and are entirely reliant on our own fund raising efforts and the generosity of our supporters.
Donate directly to our branch
To donate directly to our branch you can go to our JustGiving page.
When hosting your own event or fundraiser you may choose to set up your own Just Giving page. You can find information on how to do this on our Useful information page.
The Branch will be collecting at Paddington station on Thursday 27 June. If you can spare some time to help with the collection please let our treasurer, Naomi Neville know at WLMNDA@njneville.plus.com.
Bushy Park Walk 2019
Sunday 14 July
This will be the 21st year we have held this wonderful event. The walk is around 5 miles long, is wheelchair accessible, and will follow its usual path around the lovely Bushy Park. It will be followed by a buffet lunch and an afternoon of fun events, including a raffle.
The walk is our main fundraiser of the year. Last year we had a record number of walkers - 150 - and together they raised an impressive £9,300. Let's do as well - or even better - this year!
We'll be based at the National Physical Laboratory Sports Club, Queen's Road, Teddington, where the Walk will start and finish. We have use of a room in the club and there are disabled facilities. There will also be a marquee outside. Don't forget to bring your picnic rug or portable chairs so you can enjoy yourselves in comfort.
Some walkers like to bring their dogs and that's fine in Bushy Park itself, but please note dogs are not allowed in the Sports Club grounds or clubhouse.
You can register from 9:45am at the clubhouse. The Walk will start promptly at 10:30am. From about 12:30pm onwards, you can enjoy a wonderful buffet lunch and buy teas, coffees and ice creams in the clubhouse. You don't have to do the walk to come and enjoy the day. We charge £10 for lunch for anybody not raising at least £20 in sponsorship.
Please make sure you have the date firmly fixed in your calendar and share our JustGiving page for the walk. We do hope you will either take part or come along and support us. Bring your family and friends too! As well as being for a great cause, the Bushy Park Walk really is a fun event.
Join 40 for MND
This year is the MND Association's 40th Anniversary. To recognise this - and help raise money - we invite you to join 40 for MND. We'd like at least 40 people to commit to each raising £40, perhaps with '40' as part of the challenge for example:
*Swim 40 lengths of a pool. *Walk or cycle 40 km (or even 40 miles). *Bake 40 cakes. * Stay silent for 40 minutes (or hours!). *Play 40 holes of golf. *Read 40 books over the year... or any other challenge you like.
If you don't want to set your own challenge, simply support someone else's. You could find 40 people to do the same.
If you'd like to commit to 40 for MND, or simply find out more, please contact Kapish at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Some of our past events and fundraisers
The MND Association had the honour of being part of Bart's Choir Charity of the Year in 2018. Together with volunteers from the South London branch we made collections at the choir's wonderful concerts. In total £2,492.30 was raised, and split equally between ourselves and South London. This was a great example of two branches working together on a fundraiser and we'd like to thank Bart's Choir for this fantastic opportunity.
If you would like to organise a fundraiser on behalf of the MND Association West London & Middlesex branch, please get in touch with our Regional Fundraiser for London, Lou Blair who can provide you with plenty of advice and support.
You can find ideas by looking through some of our past events and fundraisers or go to the fundraising section on the main Association website.
We have template letters, press releases and other associated documents that act as a good starting point when contacting MPs, decision makers, and the press amongst others. Contact Anita Karunasaagarar (Publicity Officer) if you would like to use one.
