Become a trustee of our growing charity

For more than four decades the MND Association has been at the heart of the global fight against MND, offering advice and support when it is needed most and driving forward research towards effective new treatments and ultimately, a cure.

The MND Association is a charity that is growing, in terms of our research portfolio, our income and our voice to shout louder about MND, to make sure the voices of people with MND are heard by those who can make a difference. We have never been in a better place to beat MND - once and for all.

This summer, the Association will be looking for up to four new trustees to join our Board of Trustees at our AGM on the 26 June 2024.

To help support the skills of the Board, we are particular interested to receive nominations from members who have the following knowledge and experience:

  • Marketing and communications.
  • The use of data digital and technology for innovation.
  • Charity fundraising strategy and delivery.
  • Charity governance.

What does a trustee do?

As a trustee, you will be a volunteer who will play a vital role in pushing our work forward, ensuring we continue to do all we can to support people living with MND and their families while the search for effective treatments continues.

You will play a critical role in helping the Association to set its strategic direction, support and challenge the CEO and the Executive Leadership Team. The Board is also responsible for monitoring the charity’s performance, setting budgets and ensuring the Association complies with regulatory and statutory requirements.

Our elected trustees are voted for by our members. As an elected trustee you will sit for a three year term, with the option to stand for re-election for a further three years.

Time Commitment

Becoming a trustee is a serious time commitment and with trustees expected to attend about ten meetings per year. Trustees will be expected to attend four Board meetings and sit on two Committees. We expect the time commitment for the role to be 2 – 3 days per month, spread over a 12 month cycle. As a trustee, you would take part in an induction programme and would be invited to attend a Board of Trustees Away Day in September 2024.

Our commitment to Diversity Equity and Inclusion

We particularly encourage nominations from people living with MND and other long-term conditions or disabilities as well as under-represented groups and communities including, BAME, LGBTQIA+ and young people.
